Seventh Graders Set Sail with Cardigan’s First Student-Built Boat

A group of Cardigan Mountain School seventh graders spent their spring turning plywood and zip ties into a fully functional skiff—and capped off the school year by launching it on Canaan Street Lake. Guided by their Gates coaches and cheered on by the entire community, the students watched their handmade boat take its maiden voyage under the steady hand of Head of School (and former mailboat captain) Chris Day. The project, equal parts creativity, problem-solving, and school spirit, resulted in a beautiful Cardigan-green vessel that exceeded expectations—and is still waiting for its official name.
